When Barb was in Pokot for Christmas, she and the COPE House kids wrote a Christmas drama based on Luke’s Gospel. The older children took charge of producing the drama and got other children from the surrounding community involved. Invitations were made and distributed to the neighboring community. Material from the Sewing House was used for costumes. One of the interesting observations was that the costumes were not much different from some of the clothing still worn by the Pokot. The kids decided they wanted to do the first performance on December 23rd at 7pm. Please remember, we don’t have electricity, so the boys tried to rig up lights using our paraffin lamps. Unfortunately, it didn’t work so the first performance was in the semi-darkness. It was too dark to film so there is no record of the event. The story of Jesus’ birth was faithfully presented. Even though it was pretty dark, the impact was wonderful. At the end of the drama, one of our neighbors stood up and thanked us for telling the story of how Jesus came to earth – she had never heard the story before. The second performance was on the 24th in daylight. That performance was recorded and can be seen on the COPE Ministry YouTube page. We hope you will take a few minutes to view the drama and be blessed!
