TCA Lower Primary

PP1 (which is similar to Preschool) is our youngest class. These students are assessed before registration to make sure they can communicate and take instructions from a teacher. We register children based on their skill level, not their age. Typically these children are 4-6 years old. There are about 40 students per teacher in PP1 and PP2. They enjoy learning songs, Bible stories, colors, shapes, basic Swahili, and their alphabet and numbers..

We have two teachers per grade in lower primary. They have the same level of education as our teachers in our upper primary program. They are great with the children and you can often find them leading their class in song and dance. We are so appreciative of our teachers and their heart for the children.

“One of our subjects in our school is called “CRE” aka Christian Religious Education. They spend 45 minutes to an hour daily in this subject. Our lower primary students spend the majority of this time learning about different Bible stories and memorizing short passages. We try to incorporate play into these lessons and often use play sets from Frankie’s Playroom to aid in the story telling.

This is a new addition to our ministry and gives the children a chance to play. Most of our students do not own any toys at home. We have filled the playroom with educational toys and craft supplies. The classes rotate through the playroom twice a week and have guided play sessions with their teacher and then are allowed a few minutes at the end of the period for free play. The play sessions often correlate to a skill or concept they are learning in the classroom that week.
